I just downloaded and played the demo for Myst V, and I'm happy to report that it supports full and proper widescreen on my Dell 2005FPW. I had to deselect "recommended" under the resolutions section of the Video options to unlock 1680x1050, but the resolution is fully supported and the FOV changes appropriately. The sweeping landscapes look mighty fine in widescreen, I must say.

So if the demo is any indication of the final product, Myst V will be another title we can jot down as Native for widescreen. Way to go, Ubisoft! :)

Ubisoft is just the publisher. You should be cheering for the guys who made the game, Cyan if I'm not mistaken. Rumour has it that Cyan is going to be disbanded after Myst V for some evil reason. Just a rumour I cought somewhere...

It isn't a rumor, it is true: http://www.uruobsession.com/?page=CyanFAQ.

Well, even though this game gets the widescreen issue completely right, there are other things it misses on...

At least in the demo version, there is so Save option. So every time I load it I have to watch the cutscenes and do everything over again. Very frustrating, but something I hope is included in the full game. It'd be pretty stupid to make a Myst game without a Save option.

And on top of that, I've come across at least one instance where doing a certain action in a certain spot results in a Blue Screen. Pretty big bug, I'd say. And since there's no Save option, I lose all my progress...

Please get this right before ship time, Cyan! I want this to be the best Myst ever. :(

Inability to save is pretty common in demo versions of games afaik, I don't think you should worry too much.

Same for the blue screen: the demo may run, but it's often not quite finished. Otherwise there's probably a way to solve it either on your system, or through a patch.

I'd say it's worth the risk of you like the Myst games.

Heck yeah, this is easily shaping up to be the best Myst ever. Just the fact that I can ogle these gorgeous worlds in widescreen (and at 1680x1050 nonetheless) is just... incredibly exciting. I'm buying the game no matter what. :)
