is it possible?

i got a 1280x1024 19" TFT display (i just bought it), and i got the following problem:

my graphics card Radeon 9700 128MB --- latest catalyst drivers
isnt powerful enough to run most games in 1280x1024 with a good framerate (i tried all available settings in CCC and in the game).
the game still has a somewhat low frame rate...

i tried playing the game in 1024x768 and the game was quite playable,
BUT the image was upscaled to 1280x1024 and looked pretty distorted!

NOW what i want to do:
i want to play the game in 1280x768 (19:10)
without "scaled to panel size".

but i cant find the setting in CCC
(i looked everywhere, CCC is switched to advanced view)

i even tried ATI Tray Tools, the option for the setting "scale to panel size" is grey out!


does someone know a solution to my problem ?!?!?!?! :( :( :(

hmm, but can i uninstall powerstrip afterwards?
will powerstrip always load into memory on reboot?

how do i make sure that pixels dont get upscaled? that means:
1 pixel = 1 pixel on display

No you can´t uninstall powerstrip and still get black bars if you go with that solution. You don´t have to have it "start with windows" if you don´t want but it has to run in the background when you want to play with black borders.

Look at your monitors OSD and see if you can turn off zoom or some other scaling mode. I think it is your monitor that does the scaling and not the driver. But i´m no ATi settings pro.

i cant disable scaling to panel size on my laptop, but not on my desktop pc.
my tft doesnt have such an option in the OSD.

is it possible to hack/change an .INF file (monitor configuration file) to make my monitor display resolutions with black bars.

Check out this thread and this thread. Both discuss ATI and Fixed Aspect scaling. Most of the discussion is around getting a 16:10 screen to black bar a 4:3 game but the discussion would apply to what you are attempting as well.

My hardware is a little different than yours (I've got a Nvidia 6800GT AGP).

But I'm using PowerStrip to enable WS resolutions on my 1280x1024 monitor. Since I'm at work now, and I don't have Powerstrip installed, I can't make a complete guide of how I got it to work, but I might have time during the weekend.

it would be more useful if it was possible to create an .INF file for the TFT, that way one wouldnt have to run powwerstrip...
another thought is that: how do you make sure that there is not stretching? i mean a PERFECT 1:1 pixel ratio... (1 pixel in windows equals 1 pixel on the display)
