Did all this. Tried previous saves and even watched walkthrough videos. Saw some other people having same issue. I am being uber unlucky with SH2 :( First, widescreen resolution problem, now this bug..

I made a step-by-step guide that includes Squizzy's respatcher and making sure that lens flare and advanced post processing filters are selectable. I'll add an article on the Master Game List as soon as I have the necessary permissions.

Furthermore, Squizzy's respatcher is extremely simple, so you do not need to mess with hex values and such.

  • Install Silent Hill 2 and patch it with the soundfix.

  • Download Squizzy's Respatcher and a fixed .exe of sh2pc.exe (unfortunately the patcher does not work with the original .exe)

  • Run the patcher and select the desired resolution

  • Before running Silent Hill 2, make sure that your Catalyst Control Center or Nvidia Control panel has all anti-aliasing and antisioptric filtering set to OFF

  • Run Silent Hill 2

  • Under options select the desired options you want on: e.g. hi-res textures, advanced post processing filters, lens flare, etc. (if the two latter options are unselectable, it is because your graphics control center has AA or AF enabled.)

  • Accept your changes (make sure not to toy with the game's resolution setting. Doing so will override Squizzy's respatcher)

  • Alt+tab and go into Windows' Task Manager (ctrl+shift+esc)

  • Under 'Processes' right-click sh2pc.exe and set the amount of CPU cores to only 1 core. Otherwise you will get sound and stability issues.

  • Go into Catalyst Control Center or Nvidia Control Panel and force your desired AA and AF solution. And make sure to have Triple Buffering set to OFF. Otherwise you will get weird lines in the geometry of the game

  • Return to Silent Hill 2 and select New Game

  • ????

  • Profit

Sorry for the bump, but I just cannot get AA to work by forcing it. In the 10th step, where I'm supposed to force AA via nVidia Control Panel, I alt+tab and do that, but when I return to the game it's still very jaggy and non-AA'd.

You are editing the cracked version of the Directors' Cut .exe from GameCopyWorld? Though the one linked to at the top of this page should still work.. You say you've tried doing the hex-edit yourself, so if that's done right.. should work. Hm.

Other than selecting 640x480, the other options do not matter... All i can suggest is trying the hex-edit for yourself once more. You can also use a hex edit to replace a different resolution with 1920x1080; like 800x600 or 1024x768. I believe the hex codes for those are in a link on page 1. Instead of finding/replacing (640x480), you could try replacing (800x600). Just be sure to select the appropriate resolution in the game, first.

http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=14434 All of the common resolution codes are there. That's about all i can think of. Oh, your hardware specs might be helpful.

And it's perfectly fine to bring up old threads.

Also, :welcome
the link is dead or none existent

Basic hex editing guide, this guild was write to change my resolution in a game from 5040 to 1680, as the game was completely broken and the resolution could not be changed ingame.

  1. Download a hex editor, I use XVI32.

  2. Navigate to the file to open

  3. Make a backup of said file

  4. Open up the file in your hex editor.

  5. Open up calculator, set it to Scientific (or Programmer if your in Windows 7) mode.

  6. Enter in your desktops resolutions width, so for me this is 5040.

  7. Click the hex button, it will convert your resolution into hex, in my case I get 13B0.

  8. Now the most hex files are little-ended, so swap over the first two and last two digits, ie, 13 B0, becomes, B0 13.

  9. In your hex editor do a search for that value, in my case B0 13.

  10. Now back in calculator, click the dec button.

  11. Enter in your single monitor resolution width, in my case this is 1680.

  12. Click hex and swap the pair of digits, so 1680, becomes, 06 90, becomes, 90 06.

  13. Note 1680 in hex is 690, so we add a leading 0 before swapping.

  14. Lastly back in the hex editor, replace your multi-monitor resolution, with your single monitor resolution, ie, I replace, B0 13, with, 90 06.

  15. Then Save.
