It just seems a bit choppy to me. Can't really describe it properly. Does run better in d3d (on the dell) than opengl although with a nvidia card I prefer open gl. Much prettier.

Let me start off by saying how extremley
vague you are being with "seems a bit choppy". The only think I can think of that is usally described as "choppy" is having a low framerate. As others have said, running your game at a lower resolution will make it feel less choppy (IF you are getting a low framerate). Go download a program like
Fraps to install a little frame per second counter in the corner of your screen. I'd say if your FPS reaches 35 or below that would seem a bit choppy... but the 7800GTX shouldn't have alot of problems with low framerates.
Also, this choppyness could be input lag, or tearing. When your turn fast in games, do you see "tears" in the screen, like they are sliced? Does your mouse seem laggier that when you used your older monitor?
I'm kind of throwing all the possible things out there, i'm sorry if you already know what i'm talking about and that's not the problem. Do remember, though, that a 24" wide LCD is so much larger you will really need to let your eyes adjust.
P.S. What resolution did you typically run your games in with your CRT?
