I'm planning on purchasing the Gateway 21' widescreen FPD2185W. I'm only using a ati radeon 9800 pro with a 2.4ghz cpu and 1GB of ddr 400 corsair. Since this computer wont be able to handle the native 1680 x 1050 in most games, naturally i'll have to use a lower resoultion. Because of this, I have two questions.

1. For games that support widescreen natively, do they only offer resolutions such as 1680 x 1050 or do they offer lower resolutions around 800 x whatever it is.

2. What are the usual lower resolutions. For example, I'm an avid Quake 3 gamer. I looked that the Master Game List and saw I have to change the q3config.cfg file and tell the game what resolution to use. What would be my choices for widescreen resolutions that are lower than the 1600 x 1050 native res? I guess in simple terms, my question is to fill in the blanks. 1280 x ____? 1024 x ____? 800 x ____? 640 x _____? What would be the answers for using a widescreen setup?

Thank you very much in advance!

1. No problem using your own custom resolutions in WS games. Most of them you have to edit some file to get custom res even if it is a WS game. You have to put in some custom res in your monitor driver but that is easy with powerstrip.

2. Check out this thread in the tutorials section. Clickable. How-To: Choose WS Resolutions & Aspect Ratios

Oh wow, I completely overlooked that FAQ section. Well aren't I the moron. Thanks for the information. It's a tremendous help! Btw, I just bought the monitor today and I'm absolutely loving it! I'm about to adjust the video and then calibrate it and then play some games!
