Afternoon folks,

First post on the boards after getting answers for many of my questions regarding setup options and resolutions for my new 2005FPW. I'd like to thank all of you for the posts and assistance getting legacy games working in widescreen.

The one game I have been unable to find an answer for, however, is Sacrifice by Shiny. I've checked in-game for widescreen resolutions and there are none. I investigated the file structure for config files that might allow me to specify the resolution and have yet to find an editable config file. I haven't checked the registry yet, however.

Does anyone know of a way to get Sacrifice running in widescreen? The amazing views and sprawling landscapes would suit a widescreen monitor perfectly, and it would be a shame not to be able to take advantage of it. Perhaps it is something that could be added into the "patcher" being used to fix games such as Knights of the Old Republic?

Thanks again.

I agree, Sacrifice is still an amazingly enjoyable game depsite the fact that it is 5 years old now. I recently reinstalled it on my system and wanted to play it on my 100" 16:9 projected display but also couldn't find any obvious solutions.

Yep, there is a way to run this baby in 1920x1200. For the following example let's assume that you've already run the game once and set the resolution to 1600x1200.

Now, open the Registry Editor. (Start -> Run -> type "regedit" and press Enter). Go here:

My ComputerHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREShiny EntertainmentSacrificeOptions

There is a binary key called "Resolution". If you set the resolution to 1600x1200, it will begin like "40 06 00 00 00 B0 04..."

"40 06" is actually hexadecimal "0640", or "1600" in decimal system.
So, if you need "1920x1200", type "80 07" ("0780" in hex = "1920" in dec). Just keep in mind that by default this editor works in insert mode, so do not accidentally add more numbers than needed :)

And if you need to change "1200" to something else, just replace the "B0 04" pair. Use scientific mode of standard Windows calculator to convert numbers.

Now you're all set to play and enjoy the non-faked 1920x1200 in Sacrifice (albeit FOV is kinda suspicious, and there are a couple of hardware-related bugs on my Radeon 9800XT)!

Tried this several times with 1280x720 which is a resolution I use a lot in other games but no joy, I triple checked all the figures and entries but the game keeps diving back into 1024x768.

The idea here is correct and helped me get it working, but the example was a byte off.
For 1920x1200, it would be 80 07 00 00 B0 04 00 00 ...
For 1440x900, it would be A0 05 00 00 84 03 00 00 ...
For 1280x720, it would be 00 05 00 00 D0 02 00 00 ...
I've confirmed the second and third work correctly on my system.

The menus will still be in one of the standard game resolutions, and the options will not show it, but the 3d in-game graphics will be at the resolution you specify in the registry.
