Bout the time you stopped playing too eh? Is 1.5 worth it to dig for my disc, dust it off, and then install it?

So....from my point that's a no :?

I still play BF2, but I was a late entrant (started about 2.5 years ago I guess). So what is the big breakage in patch 1.3? That I have never noticed since IIRC that is where I started....

Patch 1.22 is still the best version of the game. 1.3 introduced horrible lag, constant server crashes, and numerous errors such as the I.P address sometimes appearing as zeros in the map loading screen. The "Feature" they introduced, vehicle drops, were not thought out at all either.

They managed to make servers a little more stable with 1.4 and 1.41, and fix the vehicle drop so you couldn't drop it on top of buildings and the aircraft carrier, but the lag and other errors are still there that were not present in 1.22.

Man I have no lag issues or server crashes. Heaps on 2142 (still) but not BF2. The game often doesn't start (ctrl-alt-delete and kill the process, try again, often a few times) but that's it for me.

In case no one's been keeping up, some exciting changes will be coming with beta 3. The Blackhawk is getting its guns partially back (from a .25 modifier to 1.5) and they are doing away with insta-proning, instead going to the system used in 2142.

That is, hitting the prone key will yield an accuracy penalty for about a second or two instead of giving instant, deadly accuracy. They have also modified the BF2.exe to address more than 2 gigs of RAM, enabling it for use by x64 bit systems and higher graphics allowance.

Pretty good so far considering their patching team for the entire game is 3 guys, 1 of which is just an assistant producer with no previous experience with modifying the BF2 files. (Seems to be learning fast though :) )
