Gamasutra is reporting (at http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=17352) that BioWare is slightly redesigning Mass Effect to release it for the PC in May of 2008.

... PC-oriented optimizations include fully customizable controls designed for the PC, high-resolution visuals, hotkey-assigned run-and-gun controls, a new decryption mini-game, and a new inventory screen GUI and functionality.

So: Anyone got any scoop on whether "high-resolution visuals" implies native widescreen support?

Not a sure thing really, especially with EA publishing. Many games ported from 360 have had crap widescreen support, like Just Cause, Rainbow Six Vegas or Need for Speen Underground.

Of course, but it WOULD give some idea of what to expect.

Eidos published Just Cause.
My copy of Rainbow Six Vegas was published by Ubisoft.
I wasn't sure if you meant that EA was publisher of the above or not, but just in case ^^

I have the game for the 360 and have already finished it once and going for more. It's a great game, when it is released for the PC I hope they do a good job for Hor+, but I admit it won't matter to me since as with GoW, I won't be buying both versions, I don't see the point.

If you don't have a 360, and if they don't release a buggy version, get the game, it is a great experience.

I'm just glad that everytime I almost buy one of the least reliable consoles ever made, they make a PC version of the game I wanted to play.

Bioware knows PC gamers and I hope their involvement will make the port great.

Mass Effect apperetnly uses the somewhat dreaded Unreal 3 engine. Be prepared for more Bioshock/UT3 silliness when it comes toe the widescreen implementation.

That with EA being involved to boot.. Stand aside, tall-screen gaming. Here comes shrinked-screen!

Though at least it'll run well if it uses that engine. I've just read that the devs are making the PC port with PC controls and beefier graphics in mind, so hopefully they'll make a nice product.

Eat it, consoles.
