well, if you don't know already, many people have complaints about Gears of War consistently crashing on their pcs after just a few minutes of play. Some people can't even get the game started. I fall into the "crashing after just a few minutes" category. I've updated to the latest drivers for CPU and Video Card, have done all of my Windows updates. Just to let you know, i'm running a AMD X2 64 4000+, 2 gigs ram, 7900GT. So I should easily meet the minimum requirements. I was wondering if there was anyone else on the forum that had similar issues and if they fixed it somehow. |

I assume you've installed the AMD driver and x2 timings fix? Personally< I haven't had it crash once.. but then again I've only played 30 minutes or so. Though i must say that being required to log into the LIve shit is pretty stupid. What about those poor folks with no internet? Cheeeeesey. |

A quote of our big friends Paddy: "Every time I tried to start it up it would drop out to desktop after a couple of mins into it whether in menu ... game ... or logging into Games for Windows- Live. The error message says Games for Windows Live has encountered an problem and needs to close (or something like that) ... If I closed the error box the game will close ... I eventually worked out if I ignore this ... don't touch it ... and ALT-TAB back into the game then the game still worked. It is a fix for me until they patch the issue ... " Thread: http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/node/8371 What do we do without Paddy? |

Do you need Games for Windows Live installed to play Gears? I'll pick it up to play the single player if not. But if I have to create an online account (and be online to play) I won't even bother thinking about it further. |

It says your progress isn't saved unless you login to the GFW crap ... |

Oh fer... Sod that for a game of cowboys, then. The more Games for Windows grows, the more I hate it. I hope Crysis doesn't do all that crap... I've got it pre-ordered and I don't really want to cancel it. :( Thanks for the info, though, mate. If I can save progress (ie: if I die) great. If not... whatever. CoD4, here I come. |

I think it is the "- Live" bit that is the problem ... Stranglehold is a GFW title but it is OK ... no "- Live" bit. Check out the box info ... |

You don't need an internet connection though. You have to make a profile to save, which looks like a "LIVE" type thing but it isn't actually online enabled until you specifically say so in the profile. |
