pff, a patch of 255MB. Where are the days a complete game wasn't even that big.
Well, atleast it's not as big as the 336MB (or somthing like that) big 1.2 patch of Battlefield 2. :?

Yeah, the Battlefield engine's game content is so bloated. Has Dice ever heard of compressed textures or Ogg/MP3?

I started up F.E.A.R. a while ago and was prompted to update. I clicked yes and it started downloading automatically. 255MB later I get the message:

This Update is only compatible with the English (United States) version of F.E.A.R. Please use the correct Update for the installed version of the game.

Now I'm off to download the en-gb version. Which for some reason is only 190MB

Bah...

I was hoping for a dual-core optimization in this patch. It appears to only patch problems with the multiplayer game (which i don't partake in).

I have little to no reason to install this patch.

Just out of curiosity do many games utilise dual core technology? I was planning to get a 4400 but heard that in some fps games u actually run many times faster due to dual core architecture. still confused. :(

I hear ya. Getting definitive information on dual core support is kinda like... well... getting WS information. Perhaps this will eventually branch out to http://www.dualcoregamingforums.com. DCGF!!! DCGF!!!

Games that I heard that are optimized for dualcores:

Quake 4 (with patch)
Call of Duty 2 (with patch)
Quake 3 engine games can (doesn't particularly mean that they all do)
The Movies
Black and White 2
Battlefield 2
King Kong
City of Heroes
World of Warcraft

Elder Scrolls: Oblivion is going to have full multicore support according to Bethesda.

Now this being said, the only game that I could plausibly feel the difference was Battlefield 2. When I upgraded to the X2 from a P4EE, BF2 ran smoother than before. All of the rest of the games feel the same to me.

The list above is certainly not a definitive list (heck, I doubt that it is really even that accurate). If anyone else knows of games that actually take advantage of multi-core processors, let us know!

Just a heads up...

I haven't tried this patch yet, but I read something interesting. It appears that the .cfg edit doesn't work anymore once the patch is applied!

This is an exerpt from a 7900GTX review at http://www.hothardware.com

"With the latest v1.03 patch installed, F.E.A.R. no longer offered a resolution of 1280x960, and manually editing the game's CFG file for custom resolutions didn't seem to work"

Can anyone confirm this? I don't wanna be the guinea pig!

I nominate Paddy.
