pff, a patch of 255MB. Where are the days a complete game wasn't even that big.
Well, atleast it's not as big as the 336MB (or somthing like that) big 1.2 patch of Battlefield 2. :?

Yeah, the Battlefield engine's game content is so bloated. Has Dice ever heard of compressed textures or Ogg/MP3?

I started up F.E.A.R. a while ago and was prompted to update. I clicked yes and it started downloading automatically. 255MB later I get the message:

This Update is only compatible with the English (United States) version of F.E.A.R. Please use the correct Update for the installed version of the game.

:evil:

Now I'm off to download the en-gb version. Which for some reason is only 190MB :roll:

Bah...

I was hoping for a dual-core optimization in this patch. It appears to only patch problems with the multiplayer game (which i don't partake in).

I have little to no reason to install this patch.

Just out of curiosity do many games utilise dual core technology? I was planning to get a 4400 but heard that in some fps games u actually run many times faster due to dual core architecture. still confused. :(

I hear ya. Getting definitive information on dual core support is kinda like... well... getting WS information. Perhaps this will eventually branch out to http://www.dualcoregamingforums.com. DCGF!!! DCGF!!!

Games that I heard that are optimized for dualcores:

Quake 4 (with patch)
Call of Duty 2 (with patch)
Quake 3 engine games can (doesn't particularly mean that they all do)
The Movies
Black and White 2
Battlefield 2
King Kong
City of Heroes
World of Warcraft

Elder Scrolls: Oblivion is going to have full multicore support according to Bethesda.

Now this being said, the only game that I could plausibly feel the difference was Battlefield 2. When I upgraded to the X2 from a P4EE, BF2 ran smoother than before. All of the rest of the games feel the same to me.

The list above is certainly not a definitive list (heck, I doubt that it is really even that accurate). If anyone else knows of games that actually take advantage of multi-core processors, let us know!

Just a heads up...

I haven't tried this patch yet, but I read something interesting. It appears that the .cfg edit doesn't work anymore once the patch is applied!

This is an exerpt from a 7900GTX review at http://www.hothardware.com

"With the latest v1.03 patch installed, F.E.A.R. no longer offered a resolution of 1280x960, and manually editing the game's CFG file for custom resolutions didn't seem to work"

Can anyone confirm this? I don't wanna be the guinea pig!

I play at 1680x1050 just fine with 1.03.
