Hi, I'm about to build myself a PC along with a Dell 2005FPW. Here's the spec: X2 4200+, 2GB RAM, XFX 7800 GT. The thing is I've never had a PC good enough to play games any higher than 1024 x 768 w/o AA etc and I just wondered what kind of settings you think I should be able to run F.E.A.R. and Call of Duty 2 at?

Would it look ok at say 1440 x 900 since it's a non-native res?

From the benchmarks i've seen, you could do that but then have to sacrafice certain graphical qualities to have the game running at a smooth rate. With a 7800GT you can expect a framerate around 30 at 1280x1024 and 20 at 1600x1200. Those being 4x AA/8x AF. I haven't seen any benchmarks at the resolution you want to play at, but the above fps gives you an idea that you'll need to turn down some settings to keep things going.

Thanks for the reply kashik, I'll probably try 1400 x 900 + 8x AF at first and then add 2x AA later on if Nvidia release optimized drivers for the game etc. At least the XFX is overclocked which will definitly help.

Cheers.

Hello, theres Daniel writing from Germany. I recently bought my first LCD TFT and im very surprised about screen quality and other things.. p.S. Excuse me for my english, but i think this is my first post at a English Forum, normally i write in german language, my native language.

So my question, my LCD TFT has got a native resoultion at 1360 X 768..

So i must enable each game at this setting, because at this resolution, i have the best quality, my lcd supports, and its REALLY AMAZING...!!!!

FEAR, doesnt supports in game, but it supports the resolution if you change the resolution settings in the config file. THIS REALLY WORKS, !!!

The only problem is , that im not at home, so i cant post the changes.
But stay tuned, afternoon im at home and i post the settings 100 % ..

ok,

go to the FEAR directory, and to SHORTCUT to USER Directory ,,

there you see a SETTINGS.CFG

open this settings.cfg and change the resolution you want.

Easy, or not ?

I ran a bench on my system for you at that monitor native resolution. I have a system similar to the one you getting. Mine is X2 4400+ 2GB ram and SLI 7800GTX. I only used one card for the benchmark. Everything was on high except soft shadows were off. No AA but 8xAF, you can expect about a 20% drop from the single card one for your rig.

Here's what I play at SLI GTX:

Thanks for the benchmarks Cabezone :). It's a shame that the in-game stress test isn't that reliable thought since it has a different camera angle, doesn't have any A.I. for the CPU to process and has no SloMo either :( so much for a "stress test".

See here http://www.bit-tech.net/gaming/2005/10/24/fear/6.html

I'll try 1680 x 1050 8x AF and if it's not smooth enough I'll change the res down to 1440 x 900.
