Has anyone tried running this at 5040x1050? The game seems to run at that resolution in Hor+, but I think the field of view needs a bit of expanding, the sides are really stretched. Also, the HUD (inventory menu etc.) are all stretched really badly.

Game of the Year for me so far, easily. Love it.

Yep, it finally showed up local.

Plays like a hybrid of G2 and G3. Story and structure of G2 along with the some of the expansiveness and character customization options of G3. Maybe a little to much like G2 storywise with the three factions setup.

The interface is a little clunky and not as streamlined as G3. In G3 I could bind inventory to tab and use the icons to switch to different menus, not so here, it appears. Also the manual was terrible.

"DirectX 9.1"

"join different fractions"

I have the inventory on "e" since use is bound to unarmed left mouse. You can use tabs on the inventory, so I don't know what you mean by that. Also, don't forget the quick bar... it never tells you to use it in game, but hotkeys are there.

I mean in G3 there are icons for all the different subscreens on each subscreen menu. This allowed me to use a single hotkey for everything as opposed to 4+. It is just a preference thing.

Upon further review, this game is basically G2 running on the G3 engine. So if you were into G2..

does this means that like Gothic 3 you need an ample amount of .ini tweaking to make it run correctly ?

Pretty sure it was already said here, but... no, the game runs perfectly. It is very polsihed for an open world RPG, it's actually quite amazing when you think about the size of the team and relatively short development cycle.

So basically they reskinned G3, finally fixed all the performance crap they should have fixed for G3 and called it a new game?

Or at least, that's what the demo looks like to me, and if I remember correctly, the G3 demo ran fine while the final didn't.

You guys can be suspect and negative all you want, but if you read any forum comments elsewhere from people who liked Gothic 2 and like old-school RPGs, and if you read real reviews of the PC version like on IGN or PC Gamer UK, you will see everyone is loving the game.

You can either forget Gothic 3 and enjoy the hell out of Risen, or you can focus on the past and miss a great RPG experience. It's your call.

I keep having the same error message while trying to run the demo:

Athlon 64 3500 with GTS 8800 running XP SP3. Latest drivers installed. Any ideas?
