This is Gothic 4.

Seriously, it is. There is almost nothing different about it, at least at the onset and early stages.

That is not a bad thing.

Of course it is. :D I thought they just couldn't call it Gothic 4 due to IP issues with their previous publisher...

It's much less open of a world, as in geography, not freedom, as in there are lots of mountains and paths. I have a feeling this was done to help the memory problems from Gothic 3 go away.

Gameplay is still great, pretty much every quest so far seems to have multiple methods and outcomes that are all morally grey. I am being pressured to choose between two factions, the subtleties of which make it hard to know who is right and who is wrong.

Great RPG so far.

Did they keep the 'performance feature' that made gothic 3 perform like a slug no matter what you ran it on?

Just bought it, d/l from Steam right now.

I swear Steam is capping my download rate. I start off at 250KB/s + and then it falls to a steady 90-100KB/s. I've tried switching locations, etc. but nothing improves it.

Sigh...

Oblivion is an open world hack n' slash game... think of it like that and it is more enjoyable, that's what I did.

Kinda tried that...with and without copious amounts of scotch...and it didn't really help. I thought Morrowind was brilliant, this much less so. Such an obvious lack of depth.

Eh, Oblivion was obviously another game developed with the modern mindset of 'consoles first'. With about eight mods (not including Shivering Isles and the other DLC) Oblivion PC becomes an awesome experience.

I rate it higher than Morrowind with the right mods, but without them far, far lower.
