I don't know if this has been mentioned yet, I'm being lazy today and haven't read the whole thread. But I've seen many reports that state that gamers are generally more aware of their surroundings in real life situations. This could prove to be of great value considering the way the world is today. I have been an avid FPS player since the early days and I think that it has made me more aware of everyday life. I always notice things that other family members don't even see. And when anyone in the family can't find their keys, the first person they ask is me if I've seen them. Many times I have and somehow remembered where they were. For me, gaming, regardless of violence has made me a more alert person.

Well, yes, but the sad fact is... people just don't seem to pay attention nowadays. It doesn't surprise me gamers are more aware... when 'twitch' games like Counterstrike or Team Fortress 2 are so popular, and require excellent awareness and fast reflexes.

And games are a good scapegoat for blaming things on, as the games industry doesn't have a unified body to defend it.

The days of blaming music and movies for societal issues started dying as soon as the RIAA/MPAA/BPI/IFPI/whatever got rich and influencial. No one wants to blame problems on something that is going to fight back, and likely win due to money and influence.
