Yes your monitor will scale it to fir the screen if you run it at a lower res.

With your system spec though i would have thought that it would be running quickly anyway?

Have you got high AA and AF settings on? If so thats would could be affecting your performance.

Thanks guys. I will try a few of your suggestions. As for graphics card, i have just bought a 7800 GT anyway.

Why? Did they suddenly drop the price? The 7900GT was at the same pricepoint last time I checked and is greatly superior to the 7800GT.
