just curious as to what fps you guys are getting playing at full res on your widsescreens (1680x1050 or 1920x1200) for modern games (hl2, doom3, quake 4, ut04, cod2, bf2, fear, etc.). mine was skipping up and down when i tried OCing my gpu but i found frequencies that work really well and i'm getting framerates i'm happy with. do you guys ever have to worry about getting framerates too low? i know you guys have some pretty hefty rigs...

With my new rig i get about 25 to 40 fps in games like Oblivion and FEAR.
With slightly older or less graphical high def games like HL2 i get about 60fps.

It really depends on the game...

I can play Half-Life / Counter-Strike: Source at nearly a constant 60 frames per second at 1680*1050 and max settings, but in Oblivion I get 12-20 fps in outdoor areas (and that's even with some lowered settings). I could get Oblivion running more smoothly, but that would really gimp the looks of the game. :(

Doom 3 / Quake 4 runs fairly well at 1680*1050 on my system (60 fps on fps-optimised multiplayer maps), and UT04 should run even better. I only briefly played CoD 2, and I recall it running quite well (I'd guess 30-50 fps... not ultra-smooth). Battlefield 2's quite smooth at 1680*1050 too.

FEAR: Bad framerates at 1680*1050. This game's a resource-whore. A GeForce 6800 can't hack that game at higher resolutions.

Generally, I think it's safe to say that running state-of-the-art games (Oblivion, and soon games like Unreal Tournament 2007, Rise of Legends, etc) at smooth, or semi-smooth framerates at 1680*1050 or 1920*1200 will require at least one uber graphics card (ATi x1900 or nVidia 7900 series).

yeah that's what i'm thinking. the only games that i've tried that I get lower than 40fps avg are cod2 and sometimes on chaos theory and doom3. it really varies per game. At max settings and 1680*1050 I average like 120 fps on hl2, which sounds wrong, but that's actually the lowest of all my averages (my most common one at first was like 85/170/260 for my min/avg/max). d3 played at like 25/40/60 and cod2 was very consistent, running at like 30/35/45. I dont remember all of the numbers of bf2, but my average was usually somewhere between 75 and 100. UT04 runs pretty fast on most machines, probably because it's a little old...on single player games i run it at like 90/170/340 but multiplayer is a constant 85. quake4 was similar to fear, both ran around 25/45/70 in multiplayer. quake4 ran faster in single player but i havent tried the fear single player yet on my new rig. havent tried oblivion yet either. is the demo out?
