A 4.0? God damn, from Gamespot - the online reviews that are easier on games than any other.

And the urge to play MMOs remains dead.

Reviews aside I watched some gameplay footage on youtube and it looked terrible compared to singleplayer RPGs, as usual for MMOs. If you don't get hard from getting a new hat or pet and you care about story there really is nothing for you in MMOs, at least so far. The Old Republic might change that I guess.

I've not seen an MMO yet that actually gives me any reason to believe they're worth playing if I'm not interested in a grind-obsessed-time-sink. Which I'm not. The only ones I gave serious thought to playing were Guild Wars (never got around to it) and Shin Megami Tensei Imagine Online because I've really enjoyed all the PS2 SMT games.

While I wouldn't mind a KotOR3... (provided it wasn't as buggy as 2) the draw of a Star Wars MMO is minimal... Star Wars needs story, and MMOs just don't do that beyond the most basic outlines.

FFXI didn't thrill me, looks like FFXIV is even more worthless. *sigh* They could have put that effort into the PS3 remakes of FF7/8/9... ;)

Guild Wars was the MMO I bought to try the genre out since it was subscription-free. It has henchmen and you can thus play the game completely solo, but the story and quests are still very lacking compared to a singleplayer RPG, so what is the point? Well, multiplayer for those folks, but nothing for me (and lots of games with better storylines and quests have multiplayer).

We really need more info... they show a lot of dialog and cutscenes in the trailers, and the game has story-heavy supporting characters so you can completely ignore other people, but whether it actually has the story and quest quality of a singleplayer game remains to be seen. Also, even if it does, I will still wonder why I am paying $15 a month when I don't use the "massive" part of the MMO equation.

Seems somewhat pointless to have buy and play an MMO if you're not going to play with others. Not to mention a terrible waste of subscription fees. ;)

Yeah, I much prefer single player RPGs.
