Read Full Detailed Report - Peter Jackson's King Kong

Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie is a first person shooter action adventure game based on the 2005 film King Kong. It is a collaboration between the film's director Peter Jackson and famed videogame designer Michel Ancel (Rayman, Beyond Good & Evil), remarkable in that such true cross-medium creative partnerships are rare in the realm of game development. It was released on sixth generation platforms on November 17, 2005.

Well ... actually ... it is just stretching things to fill the screen and/or chopping bits off with black bars.

IMO it has a very zoomed feeling whatever choice is made ... :(

The resolution is selected independently to the ratio.
There are 3 settings for the ratio ... 4:3 ... 4:3 Bars ... and 16:9

Demo here .... http://www.3dgamers.com/games/kingkong/

Here are some screenshots to show what is happening with the various options...
Click to enlarge ... even when enlarged they are not full size.

1600x1200 ... with the 4x3 option ...

1600x1200 ...with the 4x3 Bars option ...

1600x1200 ... with the 16x9 option ...

1920x1200 ... with the 4x3 option ... just stretched ...

1920x1200 ...with the 4x3 Bars option ... stretched with bars ...

1920x1200 ... with the 16x9 option ... stretched with bars and some of the top and bottom are chopped off ...

Yeah ... I know what you mean the visuals do look good ... such a shame they couldn't get the widescreen bit right ... :(

That's a pretty common problem, though, isn't it? ;) Seems that only Epic and id can get it right when it comes to allowing FOV/res/aspect control... ;) Oh, and Valve (as much as I dislike Steam) and whoever coded Riddick...

It's funny how some games that crop this way sometimes don't feel too bad when you play em (Raven Shield series/Swat 4/Sniper Elite) and other just feel too zoomed in like this one.
I guess some games have quite a restricted FOV even at 4:3 and so when cropped it is further exaggerated compared to those with a generous FOV at 4:3
