Read Full Detailed Report - Arma 3

Arma 3 is an open world tactical shooter video game being developed by Bohemia Interactive. It is expected to be released in Q3 2013. Arma 3's storyline takes place in the mid-2030s during the fictional Operation Magnitude, a military operation launched by NATO forces fighting in Europe against "Eastern armies" led by a resurgent Iran.

Arma 3 is set in the near-future, during the mid-2030s, where NATO forces deployed in the Greek islands of the Aegean Sea are trying to hold off a massive Iranian military offensive from the east. During the singleplayer campaign, the player will take the role of a British Special Forces soldier, Captain Scott Miller. Initially, the player must survive on their own after friendly forces are defeated in a failed NATO operation. During the campaign, the player will face everything from lone wolf infiltration missions to the commanding of large scale armored operations. The player will be able to choose different objectives and weaponry (such as UAVs, artillery, and air support) according to their play style.

I figured this is the best place to post this. If not, I apologize and you may delete it.

I'm trying to achieve 2560x1080 21:9 in ARMA 2 and ARMA 3. The resolution isn't a problem. With one of these displays, you can select the resolution in the video settings. There is a lack of a 21:9 setting in either games. You can set a Custom setting in one of the profile configs, but this is as far as I got:

Code:
Documents > ARMA 3 Alpha > yourprofilename.Arma3AlphaProfile

fovTop=0.75;
fovLeft=1.3333334;

Hopefully someone that is more knowledgeable on this than I am can sort this out. The solution could also be added to the detailed report for the ARMA 3 Alpha and ARMA 2 since they both handle this the exact same way.

UPDATE: I believe I have found the solution for gaming at 21:9 2560x1080 in ARMA 3.

Code:
fovTop=0.75;
fovLeft=1.7777778;

The first part is experimenting with fovTop. Then dividing the width of my monitor's resolution by the height and multiplying that number with whatever fovTop is. I tried values between 0.55 and 1.10. Ended up settling on the default 0.75. The best fovTop value may depend on the resolution height of your display.

2560 / 1080 = 2.37037037037037.

2.37037037037037 x 0.75 = 1.777777777777778.

The engine will automatically adjust the number or shorten it. This should work for any of the ARMA games. The trick is to experiment with the fovTop and find out which looks best to you on your display.

Ah, this is good to know. When I tested the game, I was unable to test such a resolution properly (outside of simulating it with a custom resolution). If you want, you could edit the DR and add this solution under the "Ultra-widescreen (21:9)" section, or else I can do it too, if you would prefer.

I use a bezel-compensated Eyefinity setup but did not encounter this issue, probably because my bezels are a mere 1cm thick which is probably not enough to notice such an effect. I will up vote the issue though. I think every game should have a UI where the size and positioned can be altered to fit one's custom needs.

Hi I'm using the nvidia surround triple monitor set up 6021x1080 with bevel correction
what do i need to do to have the HUD not hidden by the display?
so I can move it to the far right/left if the display preferable, or move it in so it shows in the center screen only ?

Thanks

Found "Arma FOV Changer" tool at armaholic.
It change settings for 21:9 to this:
Code:
fovTop=0.80000001;
fovLeft=1.87;

Im having issues running this on nvidia surround. The Alpha/Beta was fine but since full release on 3 monitors it looks....kinda streched. Its only a little bit but I can see something isn't right. I have the aspect ratio on 12:3 too :(

EDIT: nvm...I just deleted the files in my Documents to create new ones and its done the trick :D

I hated doing all this math so I used my couple months of programming practice to make my very first "program" :D :rockout:

I don't feel comfortable releasing it since I have no idea if it works in every case, but I thought I'd show off a screenshot :ugeek:

Post subject:  Re: Arma 3

Hi all,

New to the forum and to triple monitor gaming (really dig it).
I am having "zoom" issues with my setup in Arma 3.
The Game looks great but the left and right monitors are exaggerating the zoom (more as you get further left or right).
I have tried lots of different graphical settings and have not seem much improvement.

I am running 3x24" BenQ XL240Z

Looking for help to get the right aspect/FOV and reduce or eliminate the zoom effects.

Sorry if I am not using correct terms...I am learning.

Many thanks in advance for any help!

Kevin
