Hey guys just wanted to update this with a screenie that I took today with the High-Res Patch. The Patch I use is the 1280x1024 instead of the 1280x960, and although it does leave a black bar at the bottom of the screen, it doesn't look as pixelated as the 1280x960 when stretched out to 1680x1050.

Note this is FF7 PC Version (This is not an emulator) on Windows XP Pro with the following hardware in my signature w/ 16x Anisotropic Filtering and 8x Anti-Aliasing:

It's a beautiful thing isn't it? Watch out now that buster sword'll cut ya!

I'll take a digi cam picture later this evening once I have my camera back.

Good news on the horizon as well, because the Hi-Res patch creator is planning on making the resolution of 1600x1200 available soon so stretching won't look too bad on monitors with more resolution than 1680x1050. :)

Ow! That screenie looks amazing, i'd love to get FF7 running again, but like PS ive had issues with every patch ive tried.

Looks like the links to some of those downloads are broken (refering to the hi-res patch and the official 1.02 patch- ive got an official 1.3 patch but im sure ive tried that before with little success :(). Any chance you could upload them to Rapidshare or uSendit? Or do you know any other links for them (ive tried googling but no luck).

you can find everything you need to get started right here

ps.
that screenshot is from a battle scene, the "adventure" scene with those pre-rendered screens looks abit more pixelated. but hey its FFVII!! gameplay os far more important then graphics

Ah brilliant! Thanks very much! Ill have a go to see if i can get FFVII running during the week.

Yeah i know what you mean about the adventure scenes, the res of the images is 320x240 so theres not much chance of getting them to look very respectable ;). Thats the only advantage of the PS version, the fact that the background look ok on a TV!

Just in case anyone is interested, i ran a final fantasy website years ago, it was http://www.UltimateFinalFantasy.com, its long gone now, but ive still got the FF7 site only here: http://users.aber.ac.uk/abw3/portfolio/FFVII/index.htm ;).

The 1/35 Scale Shrina Soldiers have no real purpose in the game for collecting them. No one (as far as I know) has found any use for them what-so-ever. It's still a mystery as to why they were added to the game with absolutely 0 use and/or value.

just for the challenge to collect them all, which is not that easy ;)

Do you have compatibility mode set to Windows 98 in the properties of the FF7.exe? If that's not working, try Windows 95 Mode. As I recall, I had to keep messing with that compatibility mode setting every once in a while to get through a certain spot in the game.

Unfortunately, the game just isn't completely 100% stable on an NTFS Partition, not to mention the game was poorly ported to PC to begin with...

Yeah thats true! It used to crash randomly on my old P2 machine. The improved battle graphics made it so much better to play than the ps version though :).

And the graphics in the final fight were awesome :)
