The FMVs are indeed 16:9 (640x360) bink files, designed to be letterboxed and play at 640x480.

Didn't realize that. I just assumed they were 640x480 bink files. So I take back what I said about downloading 200MB - all they'd have to do is update the bink player to handle multiple resolutions and aspect ratios.

So windowboxing is indeed the best case scenario in widescreen

Second best. Anamorphism would be the best case scenario in widescreen.

At that time, when most everything was 4:3, adding black bars was a technique used to make things appear more cinematic.

No, using a wide aspect ratio was a technique used to make things appear cinematic. Still is. Black bars is a matter of situational geometry necessity, not making things appear more cinematic.

This:

does not appear more cinematic than this:

I meant in the present state of things ;) i.e if scaling is unavailable and the FMVs play full-screen, they'll be letterboxed+stretched in widescreen, which is worse than windowboxed.

Warning - anomaly presence detected! The Predator's HUD has one flaw - the lock-on reticule is stretched, and becomes misaligned the farther it is from the screen's center. It doesn't really affect gameplay - your weapons will hit their mark anyway, but it is a blemish.

Calculated grade: B

FMV windowboxing and predator HUD issues are blemishes.

steam needs to stop fixing these games THAT I ALREADY OWN and making them better.
cause i still have my discs for avsp in a cd book from the original release.

but im tempted to buy it AGAIN just to get the latest patch.. cause this game rocks
i assume its a "steam only" patch? and not something we can grab elsewhere

It's not so much a patch than a new version of the game. So yeah, AvP Classic 2000 is only on Steam, and OnLive apparently.

I do actually have this installed. I'll take a look at it tomorrow to see if I can fix the alignment.
