A very detailed and nice report on an excellent game!

I am pleased to add that SoaSE automatically detected and supported a resolution of 2048x768 without any intervention of my own. This is the first game that I have found which did not need me to tell it about my wide resolution, and this worked both when my video card was doing the splitting and just now when my new TH2G did the splitting between the screens.

Windowboxing is like making your monitor 30% smaller just because the devs didn't take the time to implement scaling into the video player.

In other words, we'd rather see this:

than see this:

A agree cranky. However - judging from the first post, this issue also appears in 4:3 aspect, and therefore is not widescreen related. So I think it should not be considered as a widescreen flaw, as inconvenient as it may be.

It doesn't need to be strictly tied to widescreen. It just needs to be something that worsens the experience for widescreen users compared to baseline behavior. I'm assuming here that the bigger your resolution, the larger your black bars will be.

:hide There seems to be something wrong here with the description of the game. I'm able to scale the game to any resolution with any number of monitors. The trick is to put the game in Windowed mode which defaults to 1024x768. Then you can drag the edges of the window or maximize it to the size of your screen(s). Does anyone want a picture that confirms this?

Demigod, another Stardock game, does that same thing. Both of these games happen to have the best implementation of resolution changing than any other game I've ever played before so I don't feel that the ratings really justify them. Saying Sins of a Solar empire can't do 1280x720 seems more than wrong. I can also test that myself to ensure the newest patch has fixed it or that it was just that user's issue.

To add to this, the game seems to support surround display fairly well.
Although the background would appear to have a horizontal limit, thus at the far sides of the images the texture seems to run out.
As you may also notice the HUD remains at the correct scale but does not center its self on the middle screen, although this is somehwat expected.

This I genrally run in windowed mode across the desktop, I have yet to try sofTH with this when the windowed mode seems to work very smoothly.

I wonder if I could post in the Sins of a Solar Empire forum and see if they're willing to patch the game to allow for custom resolutions and aspect ratios input in-game so you could play full-screen in a resolution that's 8:3 for instance or something cinema's use.

What's to be done about Demigod missing from the forums? The game supports widescreen in much the same way but there's no thread for it as far as I know.
