Hey guys,

this game is giving me hell on a number of levels, but for now, let's just bother you with my widescreen problems:

I went through all the steps on page 1, so I patched the game using Uniws (to 1680x1050), hex-edited swkotor2.exe according to step 2 (1680x1050=9006x1a04, correct?) and finally modified the ini according to step 3. Upon starting the game, it went into windowed mode, so I went to options and picked (one of the) 1280x960 resolutions, quit the game, remodified the ini and started the game up again. I got windowed mode again but this time it looked like this:

The resolution and AR look to be correct but windowed mode is bugging me. More annoying though is the fact that the mouse cursor doesn't match the thing it selects. What I mean is:

Highlighted here is option 4, yet the mouse cursor was hovering over option 5. This isn't true for the main menu for some reason, it only happens ingame.

So, anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm on Windows 7 (64 bit), patched Kotor 2 to the most recent release and am using the no-cd-patched Exe that was mentioned in the first post. I have also put the fixed HUD files into the override folder.

The step 2 hex edit in the guide is only for adjusting movie resolution. It's possible something might have gone wrong there. I would suggest starting with a fresh exe, and performing the UniWS step only. If you get the game up and running correctly with that, then you can go on and try step 2 again. Best to slow down and just do one thing at a time to see where things are going wrong.

I suspect the cursor mismatch is merely a side effect of the game running in windowed mode.


As an aside, there's no reason we couldn't update UniWS's patches.ini to automatically perform step 2 for people. I'll update it with the appropriate syntax over the weekend if I get the chance.

So I have a 1280x800 and almost everything is working fine. The only problem is with the pre-rendered movie scenes. When I go to the movie option on the main menu, the screen will freeze at the menu where I select a movie, but I can hear the sound. I have to alt tab, then go back to the movie to actually see it. This happens too when I'm playing the game. The movie itself has a resolution of 1280x800, but it doesn't fully load properly. I'm using a 64bit Windows 7 Professional.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Okay, I've got some problems with this...

I got the no-cd executable and tried UniWS. No go.

I tried the manual hex-edit method. The movies are running in the intended resolution now (1920x1080), but the game itself is not. It always starts up in 800x600, and then when I select (one of three identical resolutions listed as) 1280x960, it goes to 1280x1024, not the one I patched for, 1920x1080. Both sections of the .ini give 1920x1080. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

I have an ATI Radeon HD4870 on Windows 7 32-bit.

There may be nothing wrong with your game..

I have a 19" LCD wide, a Samsung Syncmaster 931BW with 1440x900 maximum native resolution. The game's UI never reported any other resolutions other than 800x600 and 1024x768, and that made me mad and frustrated cause I wans't noticing a clear change in the graphics after I successfuly patched with UNIWS, plus I had no clue of I had got it right by simply "Alt-tabbing" to windows desktop, Black display, Alt-tab back to game, Black display and game screen back up again, cause my monitor does not make any switching sound or any other noticeable change for that matter.

But after some playing time to check things up, I remembered to pop up my monitor OSD menu and scroll down to te "info" tab and there it was "1440x900 75Hz"... :doh

haha!..how dumb I was..

Unfortunately I'm not as lucky. I use a Samsung LN32N650 LCD HDTV, and it tells me whenever it switches modes, and what mode it switches to.

Fortunately, I've set up my graphics card to preserve aspect ratio when it scales, so that I don't get anything squashed. But I'd still like to get it in full widescreen if possible.

Hi there, i could use some help

I have an acer 7535g with an ATI mobility radeon 4570 card running windows 7 x32 bit. The native resolution of my desktop is 1600 x 900. Id like to run Swkotor II in widescreen and have tried the following steps:

1) Installed game, installed patch 1.0b and copied cracked exe to game directory.

2) run uniws and patched the exe to 1600x900

3) changed the section under diplay in the swkotor2.ini to width: 1600, height: 900 and I also pasted the same two lines under the graphics section.


I then run the game and it works however the resolution is still set at 1024x 768 therefore indicating the patch isnt working.
Furthermore people have pointed out that to get the custom resolution to work, the in game resolution needs to be changed to 1280x 1024 but i only get 2 choices of 1024x 768 and 800x 600 in the graphics section.

I then reinstalled the game and tried the HEX editor method but it yielded the same results as above.

I would really love to play this game. Please help!

I just ran UniWS and followed the INI editing instructions and the game runs in 1280x960 instead of my chosen resolution of 1920x1200. I tried exiting out and re-opening the kotor2.ini but it still says width=1920 height=1200 so I don't see what I could be doing wrong.

I skipped the Step Two in the OP because I don't want to change the movie res since that gave me trouble in KotOR 1.

I did notice that the in-game resolution list shows 3 entries for 1280x960x60hz which is weird because the other resolutions have 3 entries but with *different* refresh rates.

I guess I'll have to try manual hex editing to see if UniWS screwed it up somehow.

Update: I figured it out, it was Windows 7's stupid masking of stuff in Program Files.

Edit 2: Tenshi asked me for more details on what I did:

Try looking for the real kotor2.ini in a folder like this on your system:
C:UsersappdatalocalVirtualStoreProgram Files (x86)LucasArtsSWKotOR2

where is your login name on Windows 7.

If you can't find that, then the easiest thing to do is reinstall the game to c:userspublicgames instead of c:program files so that Windows 7 won't interfere with your access to the game files. Anything installed under the program files folders gets protected by Windows, which causes problems with older games.

New games are supposed to write all .ini files and save files to your user-specific My Documents or hidden Application Data folders and are not supposed to make changes to any files in c:program files (except for installing patches etc.). Some games like World of Warcraft are fundamentally incompatible with that model, so they install to c:userspublicgames on Vista/Win7 to keep Windows from messing things up.
