Oh, you could also potentially mix Eyefinity with SoftTH to make a 3x3 grid of monitors. That might actually push your budget a bit. An example...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009306
These are $110 right now (Feb 2nd). A set of 9 of these will run you a grand. Grab yourself three lower end Eyefinity-ready video cards for maybe 100 each (150 if you're feeling zesty). It could totally be done under your 3 grand budget. I don't see you getting higher resolutions than a 3x3 1080p grid with abused bezel compensation.

At minimum, we're talking 5760x3240. And that's BEFORE bezel correction.

Is 18.6 megapixels enough for you? :)

Dude! Haldi's link totally does it! I fixed the link here: Hi Rez Screenshots

I didn't even think to try searching these forums for that. lol

Just use that method, Markus. You won't have to build a crazy computer, other than getting a decent Nvidia video card and you can take screenshots at any resolution you want! I'd guess the best method is to use a VNC client as mentioned so you can remote view your picture taking PC from another; the VNC will scale the image to something you can use. Then you just use the "force resolution" in the nvidia control panel to do some crazy resolution like 4096x2560 or higher, as described in the article linked.

Nice one, Haldi!

It's called Downsampling, works ATM only on Nvidia Cards...

And i have absolutly NO idea why my Link broke! Seems like there was a Double "Widescreengamingforum.com/" in there...

Btw. There are no "Dummy" Monitors out there? Just a Plug you can put into GPU which pretends to be a Monitor ?
