It's funny how several new members of widescreengamingforum appear to have joined our community on or about August 21st solely to post about the Bioshock widescreen controversy (some have posted only in this thread) ... and they didn't register to look for a solution, but only to advocate the 2k com...

Just played through the demo. The mouse feels lest fubar with my settings :). Thx for the hack :D . I hope there will be tweaks to fix fps a bit more. I drop to 30fps in firefights, I don't like that :P. (8800gtx ) I have an 8800 gts and the frame rate is silky smooth (1680x1050 all settings maxed ...

[quote]There's a guy on here trying to argue that this might have a deliberate design decision, and that this is a perfectly acceptable widescreen solution, etc etc. And he's right. It is a perfectly acceptable widescreen solution ... ... if you don't give a damn about widescreen. unsure if you wer...

For the people who still don't get how the widescreen looks zoomed in in comparison to 4:3, part of the problem is that it's not really obivous when you see the widescreen screenshot scaled down and placed within the 4:3 screenshot. Here's a 4:3 and 16:9 screenshot at the same height side by side, ...

Looks like the game's default FOV is 75 which feels really zoomed in for widescreen, especially since I'm using to playing at 90-120 for other games. This is EXACTLY the problem! I noticed right away that something looked wrong with the demo, before I knew what it was. You know how a game will give...

I have 5.1, its probably the best way to go as 4.1 isn't supported all the time. I'm actually going to upgrade to Logitech Z-5400's soon. http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/AU/EN,CRID=2177,CONTENTID=10927 Good price for them now, like $350 Aus and they are a good set of speakers. Th...

eZ - I have yet to run into a game that supports surround sound but won't play in 4.1 ... Well, no, maybe Doom III was like that, but Creative eventually put out a patch ... I think EAX may convert some 5.1 games into 4.1? Either way it hasn't been a problem yet. Wonder if Vista with its poor sound ...

Most people use 5.1. Essentially you can only buy 2.0, 2.1, 5.1, 7.1 right now. Are you talking about sound cards, or speakers? I just added a separate receiver to my system, so I can pretty much run any number of speakers that my sound card supports ... but since it's a Creative card (I'm learning...

Thanks for responding, Paddy and DaFox. When I switched my home theater from Dolby Prologic (4.1) to Dolby Digital (5.1) it made a huge difference. But part of that was going from analog to digital. Cleaner channel separation, etc. But to run most PC games in EAX surround sound, you have to have an ...

I've recently started upgrading my PC's 4.1 sound system and am debating whether to add a center speaker. The ONLY reason I am considering this is because my @#!$%#! Xfi soundcard will NOT provide a channel to my sub if I don't have a 5.1 system. It has an option for a 4.1, but it's a lie--there is ...

I'm not dead set against it, just thought it would be nice to try. I thought it might help my eyes from tiring out so much, but then again I was playing FAR too long last night! One other simple question I forgot to ask before--do these mods directly affect multiplayer? Afraid I don't know either, ...

Your welcome Paddy. My favorite new mod isn't actually on the mod page I posted above--it's called the SagerSTALK Balance Mod - the guy who made it tweaked a number of things and incorporated some other good mods (real weapon names, improved english text, etc) into it as well ... Here's a link to do...

First - I LOVE this game. Yes, it has its problems, but it presents the most immersive game world I've seen in a long time and that's a quality I value highly. I often think of the best games as vacations into strange and unknown worlds, and Stalker definitely delivers that feeling, big time. The gr...

I have had Oblivion for a while but am waiting to upgrade before I really play it ... Besides the mods that improve distant textures, the big one for me is the one that stops enemies from leveling up with your charachter. The way it is now, the skill level of all enemies is tied to your charachter's...

I'd agree with Blinky's assessment of FEAR being GPU dependant. Here's some quick benchies i did yesterday when testing O/C'ing my E6600: FEAR XP 2.4GHz @ Max Settings Min: 61 Av'ge: 136 Max: 338 FEAR XP 3.0GHz @ Max Settings Min: 74 Av'ge: 158 Max: 389 Bear in mind that's a 25% CPU overclock; that...

As others have stated, the gpu is MUCH more important than the cpu with FEAR. Firing squad did a comparison of different cpus and found little to no difference in frame rates ... until they tried an sli setup versus a single card setup. Huge increase in frame rates ... (they also tried going from on...

I believe that the censored version of the game, which I have, was altered to prevent modding, although there ...
