I looked into doing rear projection onto glass about a year ago, but the real key IMO is that you need LED projectors to make that really feasible. I game too much to be buying projector bulbs 2 or 3 times a year x3 or so screens. But for everyone that complains about bezels, 3x 1080p in a rear proj...

Great progress BHawthorne! What screen material are you going to get from ebay? As far as gain goes, I wonder if you'll need less than you think because of reflections from opposite sides? Since the sides are traditionally dark in HT setups I wonder if the 2k lumens on the L/R might necessitate gain...

There are actually quite a few thin bezel HDTVs out there. (look for digital signage) However, it seems that most with the thin bezels under 50" are mostly 720p instead of 1080p and there's a fairly serious price premium for these types of models. For example the Mitsubishi LT-40151 looks like it mi...

84" tall is gonna make it really big if you go 16x9 (of which I don't think there is a short throw anyway so it's a moot point) are you not worried about a combo of 140 inches and 1024x768 being too big and too low of a res? How far do you sit from your 720p projectors and hows the pixel density on ...

Well modify that to a 336" pipe. (i have no idea if that even exists)

Won't a 140" 4:3 1024x768 screen be really pixely? I imagine you'd have to sit 20 feet away from the screen to not see a big blocky image?

1080p is a 1:1 viewing distance, what's 1024x768?

Cheapest way I can think of to do this for front projection would be to get two 240" pipes bent in a semi circle for the top and bottom and two 46" pipes for the left and right. Make a frame out of these and then stretch blackout cloth across the frame. 240x46 is the equivalent of three 92" 16x9 scr...

Unless you are talking about 2 or 3 years out, LED projectors just aren't there yet, in an affordable price range.(3x1080p LED will run you 20k) The el cheapo LED proj are going to be way too dim and at max 800x600. Also the only decent short throw projectors I've seen are all 2k+ in price and are 1...

I'll probably do 4, 1x3 with a 4th on top as the "second" monitor.

Excellent write up GA, easily one of the best I've seen so far, and I've been devouring the info on this on all the sites.

What size do you think those Samsung monitors were?

ah in that case the one with the same height is a 21.3" monitor and those are more expensive than your original monitor

I'll probably give the led projectors another year to mature (the new pico dlp's sound promising) and then try to go for a desktop type setup 3x1024x768 @ 25-30 in screens

OK so I'm going to jump on the th2go bandwagon with this new firmware update finally. I currently have a 25.5 in LG 1920x1200 monitor. Do I scrap it and get 3 22in 1680x1050s with nice small bezels? Or do I get two more 25.5 LGs and run it at a non native resolution for th2go and still have the bigg...
