[quote] they natrually look forward at where they are going. That is very presumtious. I pan left and right before I go through a door way. Regardless of my FOV, I will make sure I see the same thing. If I do, then there would be others who do it and similar things. Besides if it is a doorway, a la...

So, why do WS users get the shaft and get reduced height of the game area instead of bars on the sides? You are overlooking the fact that this game was designed to target the 16:9 widesreen aspect ratio. 16:10 widescreen users like yourself would need bars on the top and bottom to format your displ...

That is not true. Because in a 3D environment, you can be facing any direction, so it shouldn't matter how wide or narrow your FOV is as something jumping at you from behind/top/left/right won't suprise anyone if they are already facing the behind/top/left/right in the first place. You be having tr...

The trade off with cutting off the edges is that developers makes their games game to present scenes such as walking into an area to find enemies attacking from both edges on a 16:9 display, then 4:3 users get attacked from off screen since those edges are cut off for thinner aspect ratios. Just lik...

Surely if you can accept letterboxing to a fixed aspect ratio, you could also see the reasoning open mattestyle presentations? Many directors prefer to do exactly as Mass Effect does for narrower aspect ratio viewings of their films. Would you say directors like Stanley Kubrick did widescreen wrong ...

Yeah, it works both ways, and again depends on how far you sit from a given size display. The uneasy feeling is from your brain rejecting the difference between the FOV of the 3D image and how much of your own field of view the display actually fills. Moving further away from a lower FOV view will r...

Using a lower FOV brings all the action closer to you and makes everything appear faster-paced and more action-oriented. When using a default FOV of 90, you kind of feel like you're sitting back from the action. You've almost got it there. The main reason is that PC gamers generally sit notably clo...

Do you actually have an argument against anything I said, or just the desire to feign one?

... that still doesn't mean that the FOV at 16:9 wasn't the one they specifically chose. Just because they didn't enforce a common vertical FOV does not mean that they didn't develop the game primarily for 16:9. No one will ever convince me that, Bioshock was designed in widescreen with that FOV. W...

Again, that's just one possible definition. We're not using that one - we're using a different definition that makes an equal amount of sense considering the structure of the word. What you are doing is using the word in a way that isn't listed in any dictionary and doesn't have any relevance to th...

It's not forming the *content* again, but it is forming the *shape* again. Nowhere in the structure of the word "anamorphic" does it specify that the shape cannot include the black bars as well. The definition specifies "intentional distortion", and there is no distortion in letterboxing content. A...

Such DVDs are anamorphic; 3:2 aspect ratio digital video on the disks, intended to be viewed at 16:9. But again, broadcast HD and Blu-ray content aren't called anamorphic because there is no "unequal magnification along perpendicular axes" involved to meet the commonly accepted definition of the term.

For the general population, "anamorphic" means something that is letterboxed on a 4:3 screen (to maintain it's aspect ratio), and something that fills the screen (or nearly fills the screen) on a widescreen display (using the bars as needed). How do you figure that? I've rarely seen the term used t...

If you look the Wiki entry Ibrin posted, you'll find: DVDs using anamorphic widescreen are very similar to anamorphic film negatives, where the rectangular image is optically-squeezed (horizontally) to fit inside the almost-square storage space. Hopefully that will help you grasp the relationship be...

What do you think the anamorphic camera lenses you mention do? They squish a wider aspect ratio image onto a narrower aspect ratio film. Then, anamorphic projector lens stretch that content back out to the wider aspect ratio when displaying it. Referring to such reshapeing methods ussed with DVDs is...
