Works fine with DVI for me. I'm using a Radeon X1900XT and Viewsonic VX2025WM, BTW. so in DVI mode you have three scaling options in your CCC? 1) "scale image to full panel size" 2) "centered timings" 3) "scale image - maintain aspect ratio" How many/which options do you have in VGA mode? |

I'm assuming that it only detects wether you have a widescreen/makes the option available if you are connecting via DVI?
Connecting via DVI sometimes solves the problem but most of the time it doesn't. The issue is way deeper than just connecting via DVI. |

[quote]just to make your suspicions about it not dependign on the chip, I came across a sony vaio once with a radeon 9000 IGP at comp usa. It had the option. 95% of vaios have the option. What do vaios have that others dont? a screen driver!! One problem: I never install a screen driver, and I've h... |

Have you tried Powerstrip yet. I believe that still is the only option to get black bars on Ati cards. powerstrip does jack on laptops. At least on mine it does. When I try to shrink the horizontal or vertical it just makes the screen get all wavy and do weird stuff. Ive tried with timings on and o... |

It's possible that it depends completely on the chip, and the implementation of said chip - I know that the Mobility Radeon 9000 doesn't have it. just to make your suspicions about it not dependign on the chip, I came across a sony vaio once with a radeon 9000 IGP at comp usa. It had the option. 95... |

ATI seems to have fixed in (at least it's been proven to be there) in the Catylyst drivers for the x1000 series. But, if you're having problems, it shows that Nvidia still has the best support for this. too bad... this doesnt help us notebook people. I have integraded radeon 9000 igp. I can't play ... |

So no one has a solution for the "fixed aspect ratio scaling" on ati eh? I would really really really appreciate it if some of you smart hackers out there took a look at my april 22nd post about EDID's. Just scroll up a bit and you'll see it. If you could spoof the EDID or something I believe we mig... |

I've scanned these 3 pages and several others regarding fixed aspect ratio scaling with ATI cards (i.e., gaming 4:3 aspect maximized to vertical on widescreens with black bars on sides) . Many people have suggested using ATI Tray Tool, Powerstrip, or the CCC, but no one has commented on achieving S... |

I do not know exactly how it can be done, but I think if there exists the solution for nonstandard modes, there exists a solution for 1024x768, 800x600, 640x480. submit a ticket to ati about this and see if they can resolve it. Also, make sure your lcd has the latest drivers (if there are any). You ... |

I shoulda posted this awhile ago, I had this ticket for awhile. I believe I figured out the cause of this problem. I contacted ATI inquiring about this problem on laptops. This got me nowhere because he kept saying to bother the manufacturer. I then pretended I was planning to buy a screen for my de... |

ok guys, i made a new discovery. This problem seems to ONLY arise on 1280x800 screens. And I figured out why. It may be just coincidence but for 1440x900 screen, a 4:3 resolution that was stretched and had a preserved ratio would be stretched to 1200x900. For 1680x1050, it would be stretched to 1400... |

Just an update for people who is still working on this problem: I had the chance to work with a Vaio notebook which has a Radeon9200 video card and a widescreen monitor. To my surprise, in that laptop the option "Stretch maintaining aspect ratio" WAS THERE, enabled... I tried installing starcraft a... |
