WSGF Success Story: Seamless Ent Makes Eyfinity/Surround Easier in Sol: Exodus (Update: 31st January 2012)
Just one day after the indie developer Seamless Entertainment released there new space combat simulator the guys over at Seamless Entertainment have released a patch, that does away with the need for a clumsy HEX hack to get multi-monitor resolutions to work. Instead the game now reads its resolution directly from the games ini file. This means that running this game in all its multi-monitor glory is now as easy as a simple .ini hack.
Before the game came out, we found out that the game used the UE3 engine, so we were prepared for the worst. However, once we had our hands on the game, we were pleased to find that a switch allowed the engine to render in Hor+. We contacted the game developers and informed them of the switch, and they let us know they would set the default value to allow for Hor+ in an upcoming patch.
We also needed to get multi-monitor resolutions working, after failing to do it via a .ini file change we tracked down the location the resolution was being saved to a hex file, we managed to find the values that needed changes however this fix wasn't without its own issues. We brought up this fix and its issues with the developers and 10 minutes later they informed us that they tracked down the issue and it would be fixed in the Day1 patch. And now, 24 hours later using custom resolutions can be done by way of a simple .ini fix.
Currently Sol:Exodus has a been given a C grade, however when the developers release the next patch that changes the rendering behavior to horizontal plus then this game will get a B grade. So if you liked games like Freespace, Tie Fighter and Wing Commander then you should definitely check out this game, or if you just want to support an indie developer who are happy to put their customers first you should give this game a try.

Update: 31st January 2012
I just got a PM on the stream forum I thought I would share with you guys.
Hey, n_skidI'm the lead UI guy over here at Seamless. Just wanted to say thanks for all your help on the forums so far. I love nothing more than people who research their own issues and at least try to come up with their own solutions, mainly because I try to do the same thing myself when facing a problem on the internet.
I used to play a lot of games with eyefinity myself and sympathize with all of the issues you've been having. Hopefully we can get you some help in the coming weeks. I've already spoken with our programmer this morning, Kelius, about potential multi-monitor fixes. It will definitely be a challenge for us given our team size. But, I just wanted to say that we'll do our best to help multi-monitor enthusiasts such as yourself as soon as we can.
