Exclusive Chat w/ AMD on Catalyst 14.6 and Mixed Res Eyefinity
The WSGF had the opportunity to sit down and chat with AMD about the new Catalyst 14.6 update. This update is not to be missed, and brought several new features to the virtual table (desktop):
- Mixed Resolution Eyefinity
- One-Click Eyefinity Configuration
- New Linux Drivers/Support
The key feature here is obviously the Mixed Resolution Eyefinity. It allows users to pair different res monitors into a Single Large Surface (SLS) for gaming. If you have a mismatched set of monitors - 1920x1200, 1920x1080, 1680x1050 (or others) - you can now put them in a "full screen" Eyefinity group for gaming.
Additionally, you can set up screens of different aspect ratios. Primary use cases are a 21:9 flanked by 16:9 panels, or a 1920x1200 flanked by 1600x1200 panels. While we aren't yet at PLP support, these new configurations are one step closer.
The audio "podcast" includes slides from the AMD press deck. AMD reps were:
- Robert Hallock - AMD Technical Communications
- Shane Parfitt - AMD Technology Manager, Displays
- Anthony Brown - AMD Software Developer
